Sockapalooza sock update

So here is the sock I'm knitting for my sockapalooza pal hanging out with our fish tank. It's the monkey socks and it seems like everyone is knitting a pair -- the new jaywalkers. I have to admit I jumped on the bandwagon, but I've been oogling this pattern before I could even knit socks. The lace is fun and addictive, hence the name that Cookie A gave this pattern. This is the first sock, and I'm one more lace pattern repeat from starting the heel flap, yay! I used Crystal Place's Panda Cotton in the strawberries and lim
es colourway. It's 55% Bamboo, 21% cotton and 21% elastic nylon and 157 m/175 yards per ball, you have to use two balls to make a pair of socks. I really hope my pal like the socks because I know some others who have told me that they'd love to get them.

PS thought I'd say hi to my tour guide from the Knitter's Virtual Vacation Swap (my guess where she is from her clue is Kentucky) as well as answer Monica's question about SP 10. You assumed correct it's Secret Pal 10 and it's drawing to a close tomorrow. I've received all my spoils from my spoiler ( you can find them at my old knitting journal or my flickr account), Amy; however I did order some awesome stitchmarkers these and these from her etsy store, go and visit for yourself. Oh and Monica as well as other's here's something to geek out on in regards to BC's
coastal temperate rainforest from the David Suzuki website.

They grow up like weeds, the pretty ones...

Happy Grade Seven Graduation to Mini-me!!!!
Congrats, it's been a hard road at times but you have put in 100% and more, almost all the time - regardless of the struggle. Despite the hardship of changing schools in Grade 6 and leaving the friends you grew up from Kindergarten and on behind, you rose above it and shined making many new friends along the way, while still trying to keep in touch with the old . I'm proud of you and hope that the road from teenager to adult is full of friends, laughter, good times, hard work and not full of tears, heartache, pain and fear. Keep up the dedication that you put into your work everyday and try really hard to bring
that attitude home as well as at school!!!
Pretty please :-D

SP10 Contest Answers

So for our last contest before SP 10 wraps up was name three yarns you are dying to try and here's my list

  1. Banana Silk, see here
  2. Corn yarn, read about it here
  3. SWTC's Craft, which is 35% milk fiber and 65% organic cotton, lookie here
SP 10 has been so fun and I enjoyed being an angel as well. Nothing like buying yarn that you can't use and living vicariously through others. Hopefully they will post the FO's of the yummy yarn I have sent on their blogs in the future. This is my first SP and I can say it won't be my last, what can I say it's so much fun shopping for your SP, plus fun to be spoiled as well.

Butterflies

So I just got my package from WEBS. Yay me! I have two skeins of Wick, which is the yarn I've been dying to try, a couple balls of Cascade of various colourways and a bag of Rowan Calmer in onyx that I ordered to make a sweater. I had a sweater in mind, I think it was in the No Sheep book but now I have forgotten and I should check how much yardage I have, so I can decide on a pattern for the Calmer.

I'm still knitting away on my sockapalooza's sock in Panda Cotton -- Strawberries-Limes colourway. I really hope she likes it because I'm making her a pair of monkey socks and I really hope they fit. I'm new at sock knitting, as well as not up on the geeky gauge skills yet. I'm also working on the Jaywalker in the BMFA's Sock Candy for me, but it has been frogged a lot lately that I might put it down. I've also finished some more lace repeats on the Lace Diamond Scarf that I'm making that might go to my great grandmother for her birthday if I finish it on time!

I'm planning on going to my second knitting meet-up tonight and I'm nervous. I'm not really a huge social butterfly anymore nor a really extroverted intriguing individual unless you include that I'm legally blind with a guide dog and I knit as well as crochet. I'm sure it will go fine and I'll have fun. Wish me luck!

Frogging Party

So I have been frogging my sockapalooza pal's sock so much that it's not funny. I was going to make monkey socks with the panda cotton that I ordered from The Loopy Ewe, but it doesn't seem to want to knit up in the twisted rib. *sniff* So I am going to go through my new Interweave Knits Favourite Sock Book to see if I can find a pattern that this sock yarn wants to knit up to be. I really like the Crystal Place Panda Cotton, but it does split if you even look at it the wrong way.

I'm still working on this new site and getting it all ready. like playing with the sidebar and making it all pretty.

New Home

I decided to change my blog name, so I started a new blog. I'm going to play around with this and see if I like it or stick with my old knitting blog.

I am a relatively new knitter, since I started knitting in November of last year. Even though I am a "new" knitter I have tackled lace, socks and next I'll be knitting my first sweater. I'm so happy to be a knitter now than many years ago because I suffer from allergies. I am allergic to animal fibers of any percentage and it's so easy to find non-animal fiber yarns now that is not icky acrylic.

I am from Vancouver, British Columbia and BC is known as a temperate rainforest. There is a reason why it is green and beautiful here, we get tons of rain. All and all it's worth it at times, especially because it gives you a great excuse to knit or read.

I go by my nickname Chelle, which is pronounced Shell. My other interests besides knitting is beach bumming, hiking in urban greenspaces, playing with my guide dog, relaxing with my family, reading, crocheting, eating (i'm a bit of a foodie) and watching movies especially anime.
